Accidental Origins

A dream job! – A cover for one of my favourite magazines. I’ve always admired the art direction and it has a history of incredible covers, and the articles are never less than fascinating.
This was for an article about how a new report suggests random events (such as extreme winters or flash floods) are responsible for speciation (the creation of new species)

Art direction was by Craig Mackie and Ryan Wills.

Project M

Illustrations for Project M Magazine for BurdaYukom Publishing GmbH. Art direction by Benno Sänger.
The above illustration was for an article about Andrew Sheng, one of Asia’s most highly regarded financial regulators. He wrote in his column for finance magazine Caijing a parable about monkeys who create a derivative market for bananas. In one episode, their wheeling and dealing causes a market collapse and in another the inevitable bailout undermines the credit rating of the Kingdom. A commission sagely concludes that, “A monkey in an Armani suit is still a monkey!”

Psychomedizin

A great commission from Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin. Birthe Steinbeck had the fantastic idea of taking as reference old Indian and Chinese medical posters for children. It developed from a double page to a cover and 4 doubles.

Humana Festival Poster

Humana Detail
A very exciting commission! I was lucky enough to illustration the 2010 Humana Festival of New American Plays poster. Artists who have designed the poster in the past include such incredible artists as Wiktor Sadowski, Brian Cronin, Istvan Orosz, Chip Kidd, The Heads of State, Tomer Hanuka and, most recent, Julien Pacaud.
A fantastic commission from start to finish. A very open brief and very encouraging and creative art direction from Matt Dobson.
